A full-length novel of contemporary romance.
Hannah Davis says "I hate Auld Lang Syne!"
After all, this year brought Hannah nothing but the memory of her wandering fiance marrying someone else behind her back. Now, sitting alone at a bar in Coronado, California, on December 31, she decides to do something radical...and lets a brooding good-looker take her to bed. But when another woman bursts into their room much too early on New Year's morning, Hannah realizes this guy's more complicated than she thought...
Ex-Secret Service agent Tanner Hart screwed-up, big-time. Hoping to temporarily boot some of the ghosts from his life, he hooked up with this sexy stranger for a hot one-night stand--only to discover she's the woman he agreed to protect...from men just like him!
But a new year is a time for fresh beginnings. Despite the danger, the hoopla, and the hangovers, if Hannah's brave enough to risk her heart again--and Tanner's wise enough to realize he deserves it--maybe this one will be different.

I couldn't finish this book. I was hoping for some description of the secret service agent's career and experiences but there was virtually none of that. (In fact every time it was shown as "Secret Ser vice".) The entire story was all about his sexual attraction for her, and vice versa. It got old in a hurry. The characters were not very interesting or likeable. When I realized I didn't care about how their "story" turned out, I gave up reading.Product details

Not Another New Year Holiday Duet Book 2 Holiday Duet Series edition by Christie Ridgway Romance eBooks Reviews
Cute story but the editing leaves much to be desired! What on earth are pan ties? They're in the book numerous times. Same with ser vice (and sometimes Ser vice). What kind of vice is that? There were a couple other words with these funny breaks, but these are the two I'm remembering right now, probably because of their high frequency. A second problem was several times lines would have one word on them and I'd think "wow, that's a weird sentence" only to go to next line and find the rest of the sentence. Weird editing or kindle glitch?
I overlooked the errors and kept reading and the story line is good, although somewhat predictable. Would I recommend it? Not sure. Would I say "don't read it"? No, not at all, because it really is a cute book. Four Stars (so a B if it were being graded by a teacher--which is what I am), clean up the editing and a few grammar mistakes and I'd still probably only give it a B+.
Like others I'm going to comment that the formatting was terrible but I don't think the author has that much to do with that. Second book in the series and I felt it was slightly better than the first one. Of course reading the same author back to back it can seem a bit repetitive. All in all this was a pretty good story. I liked the parents and Dez's encounter with them. Probably would have liked to see more of that. The uncanny resemblance between Hannah and Dez set up for the obvious and I was surprised it took Tanner and his brother that long to figure out. The ending, however, is what I have a problem with in that it was very abrupt. I felt as if it left a lot of things unanswered that are usually resolved in these types of books. I'm not really sure when this was published or if it is a reprint but there are some timing issues that are also off if this is a recent print. Maybe some don't catch things like that but it still bothers me a bit. All in all a little better than just ok.
This book started out pretty funny when Hannah left her small hometown and went on a holiday. Things started to go wrong for her before she left the airport. She had never left the little town she grew up in where everybody knew everybody else so she didn't know how to handle the completely different world she found herself in.
After finding out her fiance had been cheating on her, Hannah stayed clear of men. But 4 years of this lonely, secluded life was enough so she went on a holiday to Coronado, California. Her uncle was concerned about her taking the trip so he contacted Tanner Hart to watch out for her when she got there. Since he had been Tanner's boss in the Secret Service, Tanner couldn't refuse the request/order.
Hannah's holiday started out badly when she had her bags and purse stolen in the airport. Having nowhere to go she went into the bar she was to meet Tanner in the next day. There she hooked up with a one-night-stand. Something she had never done before but since she wanted to change from the predictable woman she had always been, she went with it. Add to that, she didn't have anywhere to stay and she thought it was a perfect decision. Until the OMG moment when they realized they hadn't given their real names and Hannah had actually slept with Tanner.
This was a steamy story with lots of sex scenes. Hannah sure did let her inner wild child out. I liked the relationship between Dez and Troy. He fought his attraction to her for the longest time but couldn't keep putting off his sexual desire. The mystery of the bad guy attempting to kill Dez because of her wealthy father, Prince al-Maddah, added to this interesting story.
This was certainly an entertaining read, but I wasn't riveted. That was mainly because there was so much explicit sex. I say a good writer can write a wonderful romance without detailed bedroom scenes.
I wish the war in the middle east was over for good. I don't understand how anyone can say they are protecting America as they fight on foreign soil. Perhaps I should read about why it ever started. I am not one to believe a man in uniform is automatically sexy. They are humans and I am sure many have issues from the military. One of the characters was a marine the other an ex secret service agent. Wow. Their story line was boring as heck. I have no comprehension of who was trying to stab Tanner at the end. Six random people after Dez I guess. Why not end it in a hospital? I skipped all the love scenes and some other pages because it truly was not engaging.
The man on the cover is dark haired and clean cut while the character is described as blonde, long haired, surfer type.
The amount of spelling errors is ridiculous.
At one point the author discussed another couple so much I had to remind myself they weren't the main characters.
Story line is ok, the first book, must have mistletoe was better.
The original plot held promise but was spoiled by lack of editing, too many line breaks and scene changes without explanation. The author apparently wanted to run two parallel love stories but ended with boring and confusing for the reader. Also found the heroine unbelievable stupid ; purse with I.D. and credit cards stolen at airport but she jumps in cab because she has cash in her bra and travels to strange address. At airport she had ability to use phone and notify credit card company first thing. Coronado - San Diego has resources for crime victims. School teachers are not that dumb!
I couldn't finish this book. I was hoping for some description of the secret service agent's career and experiences but there was virtually none of that. (In fact every time it was shown as "Secret Ser vice".) The entire story was all about his sexual attraction for her, and vice versa. It got old in a hurry.
